Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
To raise awareness (and funds) for the Dystonia Society and to mark the occasion of my 40th birthday, I will be climbing Mt Kilimanjaro from 11 to 17 October 2010.
You all know about Mt Kilimanjaro but probably not about the Dystonia Society - a small UK wide charity providing support, advice, research and information for people affected by dystonia, a little known neurological movement disorder.
Dystonia is characterised by involuntary and uncontrollable muscle spasms which can force parts of the body into abnormal and, at times, painful movements or postures. There is no cure but research is on-going.
My mother suffers from this condition which together with neural degeneration has left her house-bound and in constant pain. In her will, she has donated her brain to medical research into the syndrome.
I have set my JustGiving goal at £589.50 - 10p for every metre of the moutain. My employer, Aon, has very generously agreed to match all donations up to a maximum of £500 so together with Gift Aid your money goes a lot further.
Many thanks
Annabel
