12,000 feet Tandem Skydive!!
Thank you for visiting. I'm doing a 12,000 feet Tandem Skydive, aiming raise as much money as possible for LINC: the Leukaemia and intensive chemotherapy fund (reg. charity No. 1076183).
I've done it!!!!!!!!!! Absolutely amazing. It is incredably high and you fall insanely fast. Too fast to feel properally scared. I was also stunningly beautiful. The free fall is the best it by far although when you are tumbling ….. its like complete overload. At one point when I had the parachute toggles and I was guiding myself, I saw a completely circular rainbow in the cloud below. It is so beautiful. Thank you very much to everyone who has sponsored me and given so much to LINC.
LINC cares for cancer patients in the worst throws of the illness. Seeing what actually cancer looks like, whilst working with the people who help diagnose it, has made me realise how vital the support for people and their loved ones is. LINC provides support to not only the cancer patients themselves but also their families and close friends. LINC works on a number of levels from buying new equipment to funding professionals like the haematologists in the labs or the psychologist who helps ordinary people with cancer cope with the emotional impact of their diagnosis.
£10 would go a long way and an huge gesture however a little does go a long way.
What I like about LINC is that help with aspects which might be overlooked otherwise, imagine having to travel for an hour or more for specialist treatment every week in Bristol. When you limbs feel like lead, a taxi being provided by LINC would be a huge worry off your shoulders. Especially when we all know the nightmares of pay and display parking, buses, queues and long stressful days.
At the moment LINC are raising money to refurnish and extend the Edward Jenner Clinic in Gloucester Royal Hospital. This is the unit which deals with all the blood tests, I know this because I have to go there in a few weeks time (to see if my Hep B inoculation has worked). At the moment it is a bit small, with people sometimes having to wait in the corridor. Cancer patients generally have to have regular blood tests so the new clinic will massively improve their experience especially with access to new state of the art equipment:
-
£10 buys 1 hour of the Leukaemia Research Fellow’s time
-
£30 buys a taxi to Bristol for treatment
-
£50 buys a new stethoscope for the ward
-
£100 is the minimum amount now given for Patient & Family Support
-
£3,000 buys a new Dinamap patient monitoring machine
The thing that has made me choose this charity opposed to any other is because it is big enough to make things happen but personal enough to care for instance LINC has built and outpatients clinic literally next door to where I work in Cheltenham and there everyone gets practical advice, the patient, their family and their friends. As mentioned earlier, the cancer itself isn't pretty. In Histology we see mind-boggling numbers of cancer and pre-cancerous cases and that gives you perspective. Everyone knows someone who has had cancer and it isn't the end of the world but when it happens, they need every bit of help they can get.
Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure using paypal. It’s also means that LINC gets the donation immediately and if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation. Part of the money goes towards the actual jump however the rest goes directly to LINC.
£10 would go a long way and an huge gesture however a little does go a long way.
