On 4 September, my team-mate Jaco and I, plus Alistair and his team-mate Gavin, will be in Ruhpolding, Germany on the start-line of the Transalpine Run 2010. This is a multi-stage race over 8 days in the Alps. We begin in Germany, travel through Austria and finish in Italy. We will be covering 305 km and climbing 13,500km.
I’ll be running to raise money for St Michael’s Hospice in Basingstoke, Hampshire - www.stmichaelshospice.org.uk. One of our closest family friends, Abbie Murley, has recently been diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease, for which there is currently no known cure. St Michael’s Hospice is already providing invaluable help and in the future they will provide specialist care, respite, advice and support for Abbie and her family, as they do for so many other families affected by incurable illnesses.
I have to admit the race is a little daunting – the climbing more than the distance! – but it’s going to be an incredible challenge in a stunning part of the world and best of all I knowing I’m running for Abbie, her family and the hospice. It will spur me on when my body is screaming no more hills!!!!
Any donation, however small, will be so greatly appreciated.
