Leukaemia Busters is a UK-registered medical research charity with a huge vision – a world in which leukaemia is quickly, safely and completely cured. We work towards this vision by funding and conducting our own research into finding new and safer antibody-based treatments for currently incurable forms of leukaemia. We receive no government funding and rely wholly on public support. With your help we are bringing new hope to leukaemia patients, both children and adults alike, by fighting for their lives through research.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I had never heard of Leukaemia Busters until my friends Kate and Sean's 15 year old son, Rowan, was diagnosed with Leukaemia 18 months ago.

When you hear what Rowan has had to deal with to combat leukaemia, I am in awe of what he goes through, and the daily challenges they face as a family.  He is so brave, as are Kate, Sean and his sister Alana.

It makes me feel helpless that I can't change anything or make things better when its gets really tough.  The best I can do is to hurl myself out of a small plane at around 120 mph - hopefully strapped to a good looking bloke who knows what he's doing - actually, I wouldn't mind if he were ugly.....  and raise some money for a really good local charity that deals with research.

Kate (mum) is doing it with me too!  http://www.skydivenorthwest.co.uk                             THANK YOU

Leukaemia Busters is a registered charity based at Southampton Hospital whose objective it is to develop new antibody-based magic bullet type treatments for children and adults with currently incurable forms of leukaemia.  This is achieved firstly through a high quality research and development programme to produce and evaluate new antibody-based drugs and secondly through clinical trials in patients to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of such newly emerging drugs

The name Leukaemia Busters and its logo carry special meaning, both having been devised by ten year old Simon Flavell before he died with an incurable form of childhood leukaemia in 1990.  Simon was a great fan of Ghost Busters and he created the logo himself.  The very personal story behind Leukaemia Busters is told in a series of newspaper articles by the charity’s Scientific Director Dr David Flavell (Simon’s father), found on the charity’s website www.leukaemiabusters.co.uk.
