Great North Run 2008 · 5 October 2008 ·

Twins Trust is the only UK-wide charity working to improve the lives of twins, triplets, and more & their families. We campaign to improve health outcomes; fund clinical research to reduce the risks faced at birth, and provide practical support & information to families, including those in crisis.

Story

I have done it, the Great North Run is complete!!!! Hurray!! It took me 2h 3min 20sec. Not bad for my first race, and first 1/2 marathon. Went really well, even had energy left at the end to pick up a faster pace for the last mile. Out of the 52000 people running I came 14907th place, so I am very happy to be in the top 3rd.

Thanks to everyone who has supported me, through moral support, race and training advice, babysitting (especially Heather!)  and of course a special mention to Alex who on occassion had to pressure me into the odd training session, that I could of easily dodged and sat with a glass of wine instead. A major thank you also to everyone who sponsored me, your generousity has astounded me!! Thank you all so much, TAMBA is very grateful.

TAMBA has been a great support since the arrival of our 3 boys and I felt this was a great way of raising some funds. When everyone else, including midwives at a breastfeeding workshop, thought I was mad to want to breastfeed triplets, TAMBA put me in contact with several people who had done it and made me feel that it was possible and got loads of information and support. Armed with this information, when the triplets were born I was determined to give it a go and managed to keep feeding them to some degree until they were weened.

TAMBA have this amazing ability to make you feel normal, when loads of people think that its a nightmare or that you are super-human.

TAMBA do all sorts of things for multiple families including running a free helpline to give help and support to parents and carers of multiple births. The money raised will help in all sorts of ways eg £10 could support a bereaved parent for an hour on the phone; £35 could send a second hand triple buggy to a family in need; £100 could train a new helpline volunteer; £200 could pay for a special needs or single parent family to have a subsidized holiday, where they can relax and meet families in similar situations.

It's not too late to add your sponsorship, so please dig deep and sponsor me now!  Donating is simple and totally secure. TAMBA will receive the money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, please click on the gift aid so that an extra 28% in tax will be added at no cost to you.

Many thanks

Anne
