Story
I trekked in Ehtiopia this January to raise money for a school in Ambaras in the Simien Mountains. I took the picture on the left during the ceremony that the village held to greet us. These children trek up to 5 days to go to school. We are replacing a leaky wooden shack with a modern building that will house 400 pupils. Ethiopia is a beautiful country with a deep and sacred history. Over half the population in under 16, yet only 1% attend school. The country has been torn by war since 1936 and has recently achieved stability with a democratic government and a desire to lead Africa into the 21st century. We were there during the annual African Union Summit held in Addis Ababa in February. Our group of ten trekkers is aiming to raise $200,000 for this community - although I did not finish the trek, I was able to visit the community and see the impact your money will make.
