Story

"We're saving women's lives trying to keep families united here... and Kilimanjaro, Gumachi and Elbrus are just the beginning...  i'll keep trekking up mountains around the world, and will start competing in national triathlons and bike races too so i can reach the £1,000,000! With your help that is!"   Anne Katrine, 2007

Thank you for visiting my fundraising page!

I will attempt to reach the peak of Mnt. Elbrus ; the highest mountain on the European continent, and one of the seven highest Summits in the world, this year in July.

Elbrus is situated in Russia near the border of Georgia, and is a crater of an extinct volcano on a side ridge of the Caucasus Mountains, with about 50 glaciers that feed the Baksan and Kuban rivers.

Elbrus's high altitude of 5642 meters (835 meters higher than Montblanc), strong winds, steep elevation, and permanent icecap are the main difficulties we'll face on the way to the Elbrus top.

My pledge before going up Mnt. Elbrus:

Please dig deep and sponsor me here online, or even in person offline, to encourage my effort! I have decided to support myself travel and equipment wise, so all donations will go directly to the charity, The Eve Appeal.

WHY do i need your support, instead of just donating what i'm personally investing into this trip?

I can raise a lot more challenging both myself and you, trying to reach the top of Elbrus. I could never alone donate the amount i can raise, as i can through sponsorship support for The Eve Appeal. I would like to challenge you to challenge me. Challenge me to reach the top of Elbrus, and donate X amount if i do. I can tell you that i'm training to be in my best form, physically and mentally for Elbrus, but i can also tell you that i have no control over the way my body wil react to the altitude on ascent. I can unfortunately not prepare for that. It is not even to my advantage that i have been to the top of Kilimanjaro...it does not mean i have a greater chance of reaching the top of Elbrus. That is the fact of nature.

What does the charity, The Eve Appeal do?

Each year, around one million women are diagnosed with gynaecological cancer worldwide. That’s one million reasons to have a charity like The Eve Appeal, which funds pioneering research into gynaecological cancers. Mums, sisters, wives, nieces, aunts, grandmas, bestfriends and more, are targeted. We need to get control and be ahead of this cancer.

Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Eve Appeal will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you! It's worth it.

                        So please sponsor me now!

-If you're interested in following my adventure and journey up Elbrus, then check out the above site which will be updated daily with pictures! We'll be at the foothills of Elbrus on the 20th July ready to ascend, after a couple days preparation for acclimatisation.

PREVIOUS Challenges: Mnt.Kilimanjaro, August 2006...

THANK YOU to those who supported and believed in my mission up Kilimanjaro (2006), Gumachi and Elbrus (2007)! I DID IT! And together, both on- and offline, we raised £102,465.00 for The Eve Appeal!

Kilimanjaro diary: I made it to the top of the highest free-standing mountain in the world!.. 'Uhuru' on Kibo peak, Mnt. Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. It took 5 days to reach the top trekking through the Mechame route, which is the longest and to this date apparently the most challenging route one can take. The last stretch to the top started late on the 4th day at 23:30 and we reached Uhuru at 7:30 am. It was a gruelling 8 hours ascent, 6 hours in pitch darkness, where we could only see our team member infront of us, and then hear our fantastic guide, Omari and his assistants singing in Tanzanian incredibly boosting our moral, fighting to stay possitive, ignore the altitude, keep drinking water, and heads up. It was some special 8 hours that i'll never forget. We each had our own reason to make it to the top... and i know mine got me there. My aunt. The fact that i can help save thousands of womens lives, is what got me there. We were 21 who started off on the last trek to the top, and only 11 of us had made it to the 8th hour. Those who didn't make it had to be sent back down due to severe symptoms of altitude sickness.

My target is to raise £1,000,000 towards The Eve Appeal -and i started fundraising by trekking 5895m up Mnt. Kilimanjaro to Uhuru peak on Kibo, the roof-top of Africa, then Gumachi and Elbrus in russia! Now, i'm challenging the icecaps of Mnt. Aconcagua in Argentina, 1000m higher than Kilimanjaro... i hoping to make this attempt next year. Will keep you updated.
