Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
On 27th July 2016 Mum & Dad broke the news to us that mum had been diagnosed with Cancer - that dreaded vile and unrelenting disease which will affect 1 in 2 of us at some point in our lives.
The world felt like it stopped spinning for a moment as the news sank in, but everyone remained positive and no-one more than mum. She was adamant she would fight this and throughout the last 3 months, she has humbled us all with how brave she was.
Sadly at 12.45am on Weds 26th Oct, mum lost her brave fight and slipped quietly away to be with her mum. Her loving husband and 3 children were by her side and she knew we all loved her dearly.
During her illness mum needed some special care and was lucky to receive a bed at the Danetre Hospital, in the Palliative Care ward. This was on one occasion during her illness, and then again during her final 16 days. We could not have wished for better palliative care, but actually what was more important was the immense love that the nurses showed my mum - in their words 'she was the model patient, and they all felt affection for her'.
The work the Palliative care nurses do, 24x7x365 days a year, overseen by the lovely Patsy, is nothing short of amazing. Watching this evil disease take our mum, and our dads wife, was the most incredibly difficult thing any of us have had to witness, but knowing she had such great tender care helped us through the last difficult days, and will give us solace during the sad days, weeks, months and years to come - she was in the best possible hands and for that we want to share our heartfelt thanks to Patsy and her amazing team.
You can also help by donating any monies which you may have spent on flowers for mum's funeral, or indeed if you just want to donate to this great cause, by using this page and ensuring you claim the tax relief when doing so. Your funds will go towards the much needed equipment, bedding and amenities available to the patients and their families, and will only go to this department.
Thanks in advance for supporting this cause, but also for being part of mum's life, and loving her.
