As many of you know in November 2007 I took part in one of the most incredible challenges of my life, cycling 250 miles in Rajasthan in support of the charity Women for Women. Cycle India was the most amazing experience . The sights, sounds and smells of Rajasthan will remain with me for always, We went through villages that had been unchanged for centuries, across the dunes of the desert and through the tiger forest (although we didn't see any!) Hazards along the way included potholes the size of the Grand Canyon, camel trains, herds of goats, lorries and motor bikes by the score and the hundreds of people that came out to see us go by! Thanks to all my generous donors I raised £3,500 for the charity and overall the total ride of 82 women raised £405,000.
I'm now hoping to do it all again in October 2009 but this time in Jordan where I will be cycling from the Red Sea to the Dead Sea in aid of the same charity and I do hope that you will feel able to support me. At the moment up to 250 babies die in the UK every week as a result of complications during pregnancy and nearly every day in the UK 250 WOMEN SUFFER A MISCARRIAGE. With your support we can raise money for the vital medical research that will stop this happening.
Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Women for Women gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
5 August 2008 - Thanks to Shipston Rotary Club for being such an appreciative audience to my tales of Cycle India and for kickstarting the Cycle Jordan fundraising with your generous donation
25 November 2008 - Well it's been a bit quiet on here recently but things haven't been quiet for me. My talk on Cycle India to the Comptonions boosted the total and then last Saturday Carole and I hosted a snail raising night. What a fantastic evening we had. The Peak Posse turned out in force to support as did the village and between us we made £846 profit which we have split between us. The next event we have planned is a Burns Supper on January 25th - the 250th anniversary of the Poet's birth.
9th January 2009 - a big thank you to all my colleagues who instead of sending Christmast cards to each other decided to donate to charity instead. Their thoughtfulness has swelled the total by another £20.
Burns Night is getting closer - 25th January. If you haven't already bought your tickets get in quick. It promises to be a really fun night. We have a Piper to pipe in the guests and the haggis and a great musician to play as well as lots of other stuff!
A big thank you to the many people who helped make Burns Night such a success. If you weren't there you missed the most fantastic evening. Paul the Piper and Alan Whitburn, musician and singer, were both top class. So many people helped us that it would be unfair to single anyone out - you know who you are and Carole and I thank you so much. Thanks also to Homecoming Scotland and to Famous Grouse for sending us one of their limited edition 250 bottles of 37 year old whisky. The bottle was won by the parents of the baby christened on 25 Jan. How appropriate given the nature of this charity and Robbie Burns 14 children!
Altogether the evening raised a profit of £949.60 which Carole and I have split half each - a huge boosst to our fund raising.
2 March - Thanks to everyone who participated in last night's quiz at the Red Lion which added £150 to my total. Our next fundraising event is another snail racing evening on Saturday 11 April in the village hall. £10 entry includes fish and chips and pud. Book early, you are guaranteed a fun evening, as those who went to our November night will tell you.
2 April - Thanks to the ladies of Little Compton WI who paid me £50 for tales of Cycle India. Your payment has been put towards my total.
DON'T FORGET SNAIL RACING NEXT SATURDAY 11TH APRIL. £10 FOR SUPPER AND A GREAT NIGHT OUT. CONTACT ME OR CAROLE FOR TICKETS TO THIS FANTASTIC EVENT.
