Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit Izabellas JustGiving page.

By scan dates Izabella was born 17 weeks premature but based on her development & appearance the Drs suspected she was born 18 weeks premature. I was told numerous times from the moment Izzy was born that she wouldnt survive & that if she did that she would probably be brain damaged. Izabella was born with three heart problems, patent ductus arteriosus, which is common in premature babies, ventricular septal defect & also a hole in her heart. Her skin was extremeley thin when she was born. She was very active, kicking her arms & legs but this caused her skin to tear & eventually had to be sedated. Even holding her hand would cause her skin to rip. 11 days after she was born a scan showed Izzys bowel had perforated and as she was still so small & her skin so delicate there was nothing that could be done. Despite everything, Izzy never once gave up fighting but her body just wasnt at big as her spirit.

I never thought after 2 previous normal pregnancies that i would have a premature baby, that i would only get to hold her one time & that time be her final moments. And i never thought id have to explain to my other daughters their baby sister was an angel in the sky.

The staff on the neonatal were so good to me and the rest of the family and i really cant put into words how thankful iam for all the care they gave to Izabella. They worked non stop trying everything to heal Izabellas skin, and eventually they did find a treatment that appeared to be helping. Even though i couldnt do the things a mother normally does for their child, the nurses always supported me & helped me to do the things that i could.

Hopefully with help from donations money can be raised for a new cooling machine that lowers babies temperatures and can help prevent brain damage, and for items such as hats and muslin squares which are in short supply. 100% of your donations go to helping these amazing babies on the unit both now and in the future.

Me and my other 2 daughters are doing 3 walks to raise money in memory of my daughter & their sister Izabella and Leicester Royal Infirmary Neonatal Unit. The first walk on the 11th of May will be around Bradgate Park and it will have been a year on that day that we said goodbye to Izzy. The second will be around Thornton Reservoir on the 12th of May and the third will be around Beacon Hill on the 13th of May. The walks total up to approx 10 miles.

There is now a website that is dedicated to the memory of Izabella and the fundraising that i am doing for Leicester Royal Infirmary Neonatal Unit. www.foreverizabella.co.uk
