MARATHON COMPLETED!
In a new personal best time of 3 hours, 45 minutes and 2 seconds.
Another great day to remember in London, thanks to Russell and all the Wishes 4 Kids team.
Didn't manage to ask Mr. Branson about my internet connection, though...
Thank you for visiting my Wishes 4 Kids fundraising page.
On Sunday 25th April it's the 2010 London Marathon, which is sponsored for the first time by Sir Richard Branson's Virgin empire. Everyone's favourite bearded entrepreneur is running himself, and as my Virgin Media internet connection is a bit slower than it used to be, I've entered the race to hopefully bump into him during the 26 miles for a little 'customer services' chat.
It's the third year in a row that I'll be lining up amongst the sweet-scoffing, vaseline-smeared, binbag-clad hordes in Greenwich Common (while Sir Richard is being pampered in the celebrity start), so what am I hoping to achieve this time?
1. That getting close to 40 is just a cruel mirage and all this running keeps me 'young and fit'. It also allows me to eat chips and drink beer without needed to buy larger trousers, which has got to be good.
2. To go faster and dafter. The purple wig and glasses, combined with the 3 hours 52 minutes finishing time are there to be surpassed.
3. Most importantly, to once again try and make children's dreams come true by raising some money for a very small, but extremely worthy local charity - Wishes 4 Kids.
Based in Leicester, Wishes 4 Kids is run by a handful of dedicated people who rely completely on fundraising to grant the wishes of children. A wish costs around 700 pounds to fulfil, so if I can raise enough money to grant two wishes that would be fantastic.
As in previous years, I've personally seen how the money that was raised in 2009 was spent, and with your help I am determined to help Russell continue his great work in 2010. Anything you can give will be guaranteed to make a difference to the lives of these children.
The purple kit from last year is making a cautiously welcome return, as after bright orange and purple in the last two years I was fearing pink, day-glo green or something scarily semi-transparent.
*** BOOST YOUR DONATION BY GETTING MONEY FROM THE GOVERNMENT ***
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. *** BOOST YOUR DONATION BY GETTING MONEY FROM MICROSOFT ***
Gregg's employer, Microsoft, have once again generously pledged to double any funds that he raises. For every penny, pound, green shield stamp or IOU kindly sponsored, Uncle Bill Gates and his software empire will give him another one (apart from the stamps or IOUs). Many thanks, Bill!
That's it! Thanks for reading.
Please help me to continue supporting Wishes 4 Kids by sponsoring me now,
Gregg
