Story
In March 2007, I was diagnosed with non-hodgkins lymphoma, a type of blood cancer which brought my busy lifestyle to a standstill. I was given the chance to go onto a trial for my treatment which would either be RCHOP 14 or RCHOP 21 - meaning I would receive chemotherapy treatment every 14 or 21 days respectively. I was chosen for RCHOP 14. I have now completed my chemotherapy and have been told there is still a slight trace of the lymphoma on my spleen. I am now about to receive a treatment of radiotherapy.
Having this illness has triggered my inspiration to raise money for Cancer Research uk. Each time I visited the Oncology Day Unit for my chemotherapy, my eyes were instantly opened to those individuals who were in a worse state of health than myself, but the majority still had a great sense of humour, positive attitude and a great will to live.
Earlier in the year, whilst I was undergoing my treatment, my brother Jim completed a Lands End to John O' Groats motorcycle ride for the charity Unicef which unfortunately I couldn't take part in. So, on the 28th April, 2008, we have decided to complete a gruelling 2500 mile journey riding to the four corners of the United Kingdom. Going in a clockwise direction to the South East corner, then across to Lands End in the South West. After reaching there, we will head North West to the furhest point , Cape wrath, continuing East to John O' Groats and finally South back to Edinburgh. We plan to complete this trip in five days hoping to raise as much funds as possible .
I have lost a lot of close friends and family to this malicious disease and if I can raise some funds in the hope to find a cure, it would make me a very proud individual. Not only this, but I will also find great pleasure in completing the journey due to my love of motor cycles.
