Welcome to my fundraising page

In 1971 my grandfather became the first Indian to undergo a kidney transplant which was carried out by Mr Frank Ellis (1925-2003)(http://livesonline.rcseng.ac.uk/biogs/E000586b.htm) at Guy's Hospital. When my grandfather died in 2002 he was one of the longest surviving kidney transplant patients in the world. His bizzare diet (which involved eating copious amounts of everything), his endless zest for life & travel and unmistakable wit & humour were his trademark traits. He was a major force in my life and I miss him.

He often told me that once you have climbed one mountain you need to conquer another. I am taking his words literally on this occassion. This challenge is in his memory and to raise funds for a cause that is closely linked to my family's history. It was my good fortune to find a charity so closely linked to my grandfather's illness and the hospital where he was treated. I think they do a fabulous job and I hope you will give generously

For those who know me, this is by far the most challenging activity I have signed up for, both physically and emotionally. I am taking this climb seriously and taking steps to ensure that I reach the summit. Mt. Kilimanjaro is Africa's highest peak and the world's tallest free-standing mountain. I will be undertaking the 6 day climb on the little used Rongai route journeying to Uhuru Peak at 5895m (or 19,336 feet above sea level). For those who know me better, this smoking, 16 stone (to be confimed) overweight estate agent whose idea of exercise is an hour on the cross trainer (and nothing else) once a week has now sourced himself a personal trainer who is whipping my butt. I am also on a new eating regime which involves a lot of soya

Good Luck, the view from the top will be worth the climb. (hopefully!!) Donation by Caroline Panter on 26/04/09
