Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
Every few years we try to find a challenge which is worthy of asking people like you to sponsor us. Previously it has been the 3 Peak Challenge and the Great North Run but this year we have really raised the bar.
Myself, Simo,John,Steve,Pete,Dave and Rob are attempting to conquer the Welsh 3000. In order to complete the Welsh 3000 Challenge you are required to have climbed to the top of all 15 of the mountains over 3000ft in Wales in under 24 hours without using any form of transport ! Which means run, walk ,climb and crawl for 30 miles.
Those of you that know us are probably still laughing at this point and thinking `you must be mad' and `you're not fit enough baldy' and your quite right. But hopefully we will be fit enough by June and sometime around the longest day and when the weather is favourable we will crack it.
You will no doubt appreciate that we are all going to have to train extremely hard over the next 6 months and will probably have to give up some of lifes necessities like Guinness and wine (better avoid all rugby fixtures) but it is all for a fantastic cause.
During the last 5 years two of our team's fathers have been diagnosed and treated for prostate cancer.
In the UK, one in eight men will get prostate cancer in their lives.
Prostate cancer mainly affects men over the age of 50 and your risk increases with age. The average age for men to be diagnosed with prostate cancer is between 70 and 74 years. If you are under 50 then your risk of getting prostate cancer is very low. Younger men can be affected, but this is rare.
It is therefore a very worthwhile cause for us all and any monies we can raise to help the research and treatment of this disease is fantastic.
