Story

HI THERE! Thanks for looking at my fundraising page. I have decided to run the London marathon for what is I believe a very worthy cause and one that is very close to my heart, not just physically but metaphorically as well! Some people very close to me have suffered with this disease and I would like to do all that I can to help fight it. The facts are that it is the most common cancer in the UK but also one in which treatments and survival rates have improved massively over the years. So lets keep working and fighting and help preserve the health of all those nearest and dearest to us, as the odds are we will all be affected by this terrible disease, either directly or via someone close to us!

Breast Cancer Campaign invest not just in treatment methods but also in studies which seek to determine what the causes are and how to pick up on them early. Current treatments however advanced are still quite savage and there is much improvement to be done. So please donate all that you can. All I need is 400 people to each give £25 each and we will hit our target of £10,000. So do all you can to help. Please. If you cannot afford £25 then just give what you can. If you can afford it, then donate more! How about £50??? For all those that donate £25 or more, you will also get invited to a few choice fundraising events which we plan to stage between now and the big day in April.

UPDATE

I have now completed the Paris Half Marathon as part of my training for the real thing - see picture on the left - in a respectable 1 hr 51 mins, and am looking forward to the big day with relish! We have had two successful fundraising events, at the Cosmobar, Clerkenwell in January and at Janet's Bar, Kensington in March, where we raised a combined total of £960 - thanks to all that came along and supported! Stay tuned for details of the next one.

WOW! The London Marathon is over. I did it in a leisurely 4h27m, with my friend and personal trainer / stereo Parviz Sadigh in tow. Parviz is an excellent runner who did the Paris half too, his half-way split there was 35 minutes and he was on course to complete it in a really fast 1hr15 but he pulled up after crippling knee pain towards the end and had to walk the remainder, coming in with a still very quick 1hr29.

Parviz was reluctant to run the London Marathon with such knee problems but we decided that as long as he ran it slowly (ie my pace) he would be ok. So we strapped a ghetto blaster to his back (hah!) and we had excellent tunes for the duration of the distance, much appreciated by many, not least the gaggle of runners who collated behind us! The final stretch in the tunnel near mile 23 was a moment to behold, with the dance music echoing down the underpass!

We stuck together the whole way and towards the end poor Parviz tired again with knee pain so we eased off. We also stopped at several points to sort out the batteries etc so I reckon without the interruptions and delays I could have come close to my original 4 hour target. It was my first marathon but definitely will not be my last!!

PLEASE KEEP DONATING, I WOULD LIKE TO HIT AT LEAST £5K BEFORE CALLING TIME ON THIS PAGE. I WILL HAVE ONE MORE PARTY TO CELEBRATE THE END OF THE RUN AND ALL ITS GRUELLING TRAINING - IF YOU CONTRIBUTE I'LL MAKE SURE YOU GET AN INVITE.

Thanks,

Simon
