Story
Hi I'm David, This is not really my story, but the story of a Team cycling to raise money for the Stoke Mandeville Spinal Foundation, please read below...
Welcome to the ApresSCI fundraising page.
We are a five strong team that will be riding from London to Edinburgh and back (875 miles) between 26 and 31 July 2009 - that's equivalent to cycling to Rome in 6 days . You can follow our preparation and the ride itself on Twitter at www.twitter.com/apressci. The ride has started and Terri is our Ghost writer, so please have a look on line, make sure she is doing it right!
We are putting ourselves through this for a great cause: the Stoke Mandeville Spinal Foundation. Team ApresSCI (meaning 'After Spinal Cord Injury') is raising money for a new purpose built research facility at Stoke Mandeville Hospital. Our ambition is to create an international research centre of excellence to further our understanding of living with and managing spinal cord injury and to investigate new treatments to impove the quality of life of those who suffer this catastrophic injury.
Four of team ApresSCI work for Buckinghamshire Hospitals NHS Trust which boasts the National Spinal Injuries Centre at its Stoke Mandeville site. Stoke Mandeville Hospital is also the birthplace of the Paralympic movement, so this athletic endeavour is very fitting. It is also an enormous challenge!!
Donating through this website is quick, easy and completely secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor us: Stoke Mandeville Spinal Foundation gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation. All donations no matter how small, will make a difference
