Story
Thank you for visiting my fundraising page. Please dig deep and sponsor me online!
So, if you don't know me, my name is April McArdle, I'm 22 and I currently live in Glasgow.
I'm studying HND Sound Production at James Watt College.
Sometime in the future I would love to volunteer and help kids whose parents have MS.
My mum had MS, so this charity is very important to me. My mum never complained about her condition. She was the strongest, most amazing person I have ever known.
This year is the tenth anniversary of her death, and I'd like to raise as much money for the MS Society and awareness of the condition as possible. So I am going to slide over 600ft across the Clyde!
I was shocked to find out that Scotland has the highest prevalence of MS in the world, I'm sure many people are not aware of the statistics.
What is MS?
Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is the most common disabling neurological condition affecting young adults. Around 85,000 people in the UK have MS. In Scotland it is estimated that there are 10,500 people with MS – more people per capita than anywhere else in the world. MS is the result of damage to myelin - a protective sheath surrounding nerve fibres of the central nervous system. When myelin is damaged, this interferes with messages between the brain and other parts of the body.
I am willing to dress up in a silly costume on the day of the slide, although I'll probably have to wear some kind of health and safety tracksuit thing when I actually do it!
Please come down and watch me do the zip slide if you'd like!
Any suggestions for costume ideas can be sent to erzulie@gmail.com
Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: MS Society Scotland will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.
So please sponsor me now!
Many thanks for your support.
