After watching a friend run the 2009 London Marathon, i've decided to take the plunge again following my 2003 experience. The NHS trust i work for organises and runs practical courses in managing type 1 diabetes and i will be supporting this great cause and helping to make a real difference to patients. Type 1 diabetes is a condition that you cannot prevent. About 35,000 people in the UK are affected and the number is growing all the time. It is a leading cause of kidney failure, adult blindness, stroke, heart attack and nerve damage leading to amputations. The BERTIE courses are proving so successful there is now a two year waiting list. With your help, the trust could offer this course much sooner, to many more of our patients with diabetes.
