2010 Leeds 10K (Run for All) · 4 July 2010 ·

St Gemma's Hospice is a local, independent charity providing the best possible care and support for people in Leeds with cancer and other life-threatening illnesses. We support patients and their families, both in the Hospice and in the community, at any stage of their illness.

Story

St Gemmas Hospice provides specialist medical and nursing care for people with life threatening illnesses along with support for their families.

Our relationship with St Gemmas started in 2005. During that time we have participated in several events to raise money for them as well as producing promotional merchandise.

Our latest endeavour sees several members of the Argon/Creative Emporium team running the Jayne Tomlinson 10K leeds run in July. Being competitive is fueling the teams training and they all hope to finish within an hour!

St Gemmas really is a worthwhile cause and every penny counts!

-        It costs £375 per day to care for one in-patient at St Gemmas

-        £200 for a day hospice session for a patient

-        £175 for a St Gemmas community nurse to visit a patient in their own home

-        £20,400 is the cost for running the whole hospice for one day- thats over 7 million pounds a year!

The majority of this money needs to be raised through donations, legacies, fundraising and St Gemmas chain of charity shops so please donate if you can, 80p out of every £1 donated is spent on patient care so your money really is going to a good cause.

In 2008

-       St Gemmas community nurses were able to make 2,884 visits and there were 1,801 day hospice attendances

-       The Hospice received 885 new referrals

-    They had 634 in-patient Admissions
