Hi there!
This summer we're off to the Alps; walking, climbing and admiring the landscape. Unfortunately for some of us that's not enough so we've decided to spice things up a little with our transport arrangements.
Going out, we're travelling mostly by train and cycling a little between. A gentle toddle from Le Havre to Paris (~150 miles, mostly flat) and from Genève to Arolla (~105 miles, increase in elevation= 1500 m).
After a couple of weeks at the highest campsite in Europe we'll jump back on the saddles and cycle ALL the way home!
Arolla - Le Havre ~800 miles; escaping the Alps along the winding mountain roads and then around two weeks cycling across mainland France (catching the ferry back England on 26/07/08).
Portsmouth - Leeds ~250 miles; Arran lives near the coast and Nick has PhD to attend to so going solo, I'm is set to traverse the backbone of England.
Overall, That's Well Over 1'000 miles of cycling! (we're carrying all of our own kit for the journey...oh, and Matt's doing it on a mountain bike!!)
I hope you see this as a fitting excuse to help out this superb charity. Even if you donate only a couple of pounds, every penny counts and it will be greatly appreciated!
Visit our face book group "A-rolling Home 1'000 miles!" for more info and updates!
Thank you for having a nosey!
31/07/08- HOME!!!!!!!! 342 miles back up England and I'm finally here! Over all that's 1359 cycling in just over 100 hours on the saddle. Thank you to all those who looked after us on our return up England and enormous thank you to everyone who has sponsored the ride!

27/07/08 - BACK IN ENGLAND - Well they have made it back into England. Matt has started his journey home and is staying the night in Reading.
23/07/08. After cycling 698 miles the chaps are now at the coast looking for a campsite to stay on. So far the have exceeded thier 1000 miles!!!! They have still got to cycle when the arrive back in the UK at the weekend. Don't forget Matt is determined to cycle back to Bradord too!
UPDATE:22/07/08
They are now 616.08 mile in on their return journey and are managing to have some fun spending days at the beach to compensate for "cycling excessively fast". Currently heading towards Caen.
UPDATE: 29th June
The lads have safely arrived at their campsite after cycling 318.74 miles (remember Matt is a mathematician these figures have to be exact!). So far they have conquered "The hill of doom" managed to swim in lake and sleep under the stars and that's all in less than a week.
The best support we can give these brave chaps is to make a donation, no matter how small it is... every donation will help them reach their target!
