Hi there folks,

Believe it or not, the challenge to ride our Motorbikes from John O'Groats to Lands End (End to End) and cover 1000 miles in one go within 24Hrs is NOW completed! As of the 3rd of July we commenced our run at 4am as planned and completed the run approx 21 hours later. A few more than expected but we made it in the timescales set and for us to acheive the Iron Butt accreditation.

By in large the weather for a large part of the journey was pretty decent, but we had to endure some horrific weather whilst riding in the Pennines (after shap) southwards. It lasted for well over 100 miles and it made for some challenging riding. Fortunately we all got through it without incident.

The next big challenge was North of Manchester heading towards Birmingham were there was massive tailbacks along the M6. For anyone that knows this area it was worse than normal. We were filtering in blistering sunshine for more than 30 miles!

As time was creeping on into the late evening and night, the traffic reduced considerably and we were entering the Cornwall region around 11.30pm' ish. So a bit of night time riding came into play.

We reached our destination in the early hours of saturday morning (after 1am ish), to much relief all round. It was not so much my butt screaming in pain but more my lower back, and right hand/wrist due to having to hold the accelerator open for the duration of the ride.

At times there were times in which I thought we were not going to make it or just give up (bad weather), but the thought of NOT completing this challenge with the kind donations I have already received from you all stopped me from doing this so I pushed on and completed the challenge. Both bike and I remain intact after the run.

I have posted up a few pics to show you that the journey happened etc, so please feel free to browse

All Money currently raised is going to the CHS Northern Ireland a charity which a lot of you will be familar with. As some of you will know I lost my mum to a combination of both chest and stroke illnesses a couple of years ago; therefore I would like to dedicate this run in her memory and raise funds for this charity which provided help to her during her illness.

So, go on, spare a wee bit and help out a great cause. The run is now completed and donations have come in and I now hope to reach the £1000 I originally filled in as a site requirement to now making that my next challenge. So if i get anywhere near that or beyond it then that will be FANTASTIC!! Thanks for visiting my fundraising page, and for those that have not given please do so, the page will remain open until September and I would love to hit the mark on this

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Northern Ireland Chest Heart & Stroke gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.

So please keep sponsoring this page and let others know!

Cheers

Andrew
