As with many great ideas, it all began one evening propping up the bar in the Prince Arthur in Windsor...
“Wouldn't it be great to go on an adventure holiday this year?” “I've always wanted to do the Gumball Rally”. “Shame its too exclusive and we need a holiday now, sigh”.
Then Harry the landlord pipes up “You know you can do a Banger Rally to Prague? Hell, if you girls can get your act together you can drive my ancient black cab there. Like that'll ever happen...”
And so it came to pass that Julia, Emma and Rachael, with less than two months to go and the help of a few friends, (not least of which John 'the marvellous mechanic' Staunton and Richard of SignsExpress in Slough) defied the sceptics and found themselves taking on The Greatest Challenge of their Lives*
On 3 September, in true Wacky Races** spirit, the 'Arthur's Ant Hill Mob' will embark upon a 7 day rally across Europe taking in 8 countries in the newly christened 'Bullet-proof bomb'. We want to use this as an opportunity to raise awareness and money for a really brilliant local charity – the Alexander Devine Children’s Hospice Service.
The charity is currently raising money to pay for building the first children’s hospice in Berkshire. Can you believe there isn't one already? We can't. Currently there are 350 families in Berkshire, with children who have life-limiting or life-threatening conditions who could benefit from this. To date £1.2 million has been raised but they need nearly as much again to get the project off the ground. You can read more about them by clicking on the link on the left..
We really want to stress that we have covered the full cost of our trip ourselves so every penny donated will go straight to the charity via this just-giving page. In addition, if you would like to advertise your business on the car in lieu of a donation to them, please email baileyrachael@hotmail.co.uk with details.
Special thanks goes to Harry and Emma Ballin, who run the Prince Arthur pub on Grove Road for their donation of the car, help with repairs and getting sponsorship.
Now all you have to do is follow Clyde, Rug Bug Benny and Ring a Ding on their adventures via the official facebook page https://www.facebook.com/#!/MotoscapeBangerRally (and cross your fingers and toes that the car makes it)!
Thanks for your support.
*well, this year anyway
** The Wacky Races! A never-ending, gag heavy, race around the globe. The world's wackiest racers constantly compete to win to be crowned “World's Wackiest Racer.” The Ant Hill Mob are Wacky Races' bunch of half-sized, stick up guys who rely on getaway power to blast past their Wacky Races rivals. With seven of them trying to drive the Bulletproof Bomb, its amazing they make it to the start of the Wacky Races, let alone cross the finish line.
