I'm a part of the massive fundraising event this year - "The Great Warwick Jump 2009" - yes, I'm SKYDIVING!!

This is how we're raising money through the event - finding donors to various charities, and getting them to sponsor us for the jumps. The event organisers have struck a deal with Target Skysports, at Skydive Hibaldstow, Brigg, Lincoln, UK. The drop zone offers charity dives, in which the cost of the jump is discounted, and the larger the number of jumpers, the heavier the discount, and larger is the share that the charities receive. All jumpers are required to raise a minimum amount of £300, to be able to participate in the jump, of which £150 will go to a charity of the participant's choice, in case of a Static-Line Jump, and £100 in case of the tandem, with the rest covering the jump costs. There is a fairly large media profile for the entire event, and are they should eventually get corporate sponsors involved, by offering the incentive of having sponsored, and backed the setting of a new world record for most number of jumps in the shortest timespan, not to mention helping out the various different charities!

In order for this to succeed, we need as many jumpers as possible, and I hope you'll back me to become one of them by helping me raise much more than the minimum required amount of £ 300.

The costs of tmy jump amount to around £150, which each individual can either raise through mediums such as this, or pay himself. The rest of the money (£150 !!) is all credited to the charity of the jumper's choice.

I've chosen Christel house, as I've seen first hand the work they do - having lived in the locality of one of the centres back in Bangalore. In a very Indian context, convincing parents living below the poverty line of the long term benefits and the practicalities of sending their children to school, rather than provide a meagre supplement to the family income, by becoming child labourers is VERY tough. Having worked with schoolmates, and spoken to many people first hand, the biggest problem is a lack of belief of results. At such times, it helps to quote great, stoic examples of success such as Christel House, and reach out to help more people.

The greatest sense of fulfilment in helping out with children's charities though, is the sense of gratitude that these young kids carry with them throughout the rest of their lives. They always strive to give something back to the people that helped make them what they are, and reach out to help. I just hope that I can start off a similar snowball effect - and help us in reaching the day, when such charities will not be needed.
