Friends of Asha (GB) raises money and awareness for the work of Asha Community Health and Development Society. Asha works in 90+ slum colonies in Delhi, India. It improves health and provides support and education for over 750,000 slum dwellers, enabling them to make positive changes to their lives.

Story

The Challenge...
I have bought myself a heap of a 'classic' car - a 1961 Hillman Minx, which has been off the road for over 25 years, and when I bought the car the engine was completely seized and none of the electrics worked!

The challenge ahead is to get the car road worthy, and in August drive it from Southampton to Scotland - and back.

A 47 year old car - unused and off the road for over 25 years - travelling 1500 miles - hoping to raise £3000!

It is a big challenge, but the reason for doing it is even bigger...

The reason...
Many of you who know me, will know my passion for India - I have been taking teams out to India to work in the slums of New Delhi alongside a local healthcare and development agency called ASHA (which in Hindi means hope).

We work in an area of the city called Jeevan Nagar in the Indira Camp slums - the money raised from this trip will go towards funding English classes to be run in the area, particularly for women and children.
Learning to speak and to write English removes huge barriers to employment and will make a huge impact on the community, empowering and encouraging people to be able to work their way out of poverty.

Please give generously!
