In June 2008 at the age of 5 years my son Ashley was diagnosed with stage 4 MYCN high risk Neuroblastoma, a very aggressive form of childhood cancer.
Ashley bravely battled through the most aggressive forms of treatment available in the uk at the time, a cocktail of chemotherapies, high risk operation, stem cell therapy, high dose chemotherapy and radiotherapy, after 14 months Ashley reach remission, and this was the most amazing feeling, we had done it, he had beat the disease.
Sadly just 6 months into remission a routine check up gave us the most devastating news Ashley had relapsed.
Heartbreakingly Neuroblastoma is a very aggressive cancer and has a very high mortality rate, due to the hgh level of relapse and poor response to tretment second time around.
Ashley started treatment straight away but sadly the disease continued to spread, and we managed to find a mix that had slowed the spread of the diease to " give us some time," but as most parents we could not accept this and continued to rsearch for new treatment.
We stumbed across a new trial for relapsed Neuroblastoma at a specialist hospital in Germany.
Within days of correspondence, Ashley had been accepted and we flew to Germany that week for Ashley to start the treatment.
This treatment will be ongoing and is privately funded so we are in desperate need to raise more funds to continue the treatment that could be the key to saving Ashleys life.
Please, please help support Ashley in what will be the hardest battle, every penny really dose make a difference.
with much thanks clair, Ashleys mum x
