Story

SATURDAY 9TH MAY - NOT ENOUGH WIND MID-CHANNEL

SUNDAY 10TH MAY - EVEN LESS WIND

MONDAY 11TH MAY - TOO MUCH WIND & GUSTY

REVISED DATE TBC!!!!

This all started seven years ago when I first saw a kitesurfer whilst I was on holiday. He was going to and from the mainland to an island offshore, each journey a distance of a mile or so. Quite quickly I was adding up the total distance and my mind started spinning as to how far one could actually travel on what is essentially a large tea-tray.

Ever since then, this has been a goal and a year ago I promised a good friend who runs CHAMPION BEHAVIOURS (www.championbehaviours.com) that I would do this record attempt in the name of his charity

The final route is now CONFIRMED as being Poole-Cherbourg, a thumping 75-mile challenge - as I said at the beginning, our goals must be uncomfortably high!

We have moved away from the original plan of Hythe (Kent) - Wissant (Calais) as there was a total block on this plan by the French Authorities. The idea of this route had been to beat the current record on the same route, and then to turn round and get a new record "there and back" - a total of 50 miles. But even Guinness no longer recognise this route as a record, so we have to move out of the Dover Straits. We are therefore now doing a crossing three times the distance of the current record!

I have the great support of my team mate Rob Ward. Rob is a like-minded guy experiencing a similar mid-life crisis, neither of us having the funds to quash this with a Harley Davidson or a red Ferrari, so we resort to mad ideas such as this.

Guinness World Records are at the ready with their stopwatches and whilst corporate sponsorship has all but dried up, we both know that our friends, colleagues and families won't desert us

So ..... you know the score, hands deep in your pockets and support this worthwhile cause, making our cross-channel attempt a success for CHAMPION BEHAVIOURS, whatever time we finish in - a place in the record books is only to massage our massive egos!

Be sure to check out Ben Ainslie's endorsement video at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FzGbefAuW5c if you needed confirmation of this journey's importance

There are precious few piccies or videos of me kiting, but to give you some idea of this sport, you can click in at  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a72674Erx9s to see me learning jumps a couple of years ago

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Champion Behaviours gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.

So please sponsor us now, before we have to come at you for Kitesurf Round Britain 2010!
