Alzheimer's Society - Trek Kilimanjaro 2011 · 15 September 2011 ·

At Alzheimer’s Society we’re working towards a world where dementia no longer devastates lives. We do this by giving help to those living with dementia today, and providing hope for the future by campaigning to make dementia the priority it should be and funding groundbreaking research.

Story

I MADE IT! I have been home four weeks now and am so glad I achieved summit. The Trek was as amazing an experiance as I expected and I am grateful to my husband Philip for all the training as I would not have made it otherwise. With his constant reminders to train I was physically able for the challenge. The seven nights in a tent and no showers or toilets now that was something I was not prepared for and will not be doing again. Home comforts I appreciate now. I met some amazing people and we all helped each other through the hard times...altitude sickness! Summit night is something that is not easy to discribe, Mountain Dave tried...Its like walking whilst you have flu, you have drank half bottle of whiskey, you are wearing wellies full of cement and the best part, you have a plastic bag on your head...that really does describe summit day. Thank you for all your support.....The Pain, Alzheimers society and of course I am worth it. xxx
