Dear All
This May I will be participating in a 640km,7 day cycle ride from Biarritz in the South of France to Barcelona in Spain via the mountains of the Pyrenees to raise money for two charities; The Childrens Trust in Tadworth and The Royal Atkinson Wing of the The St Georges Hospital Trust in Tooting.
With regard to The Childrens Trust we have given ourselves a total fundraising target of £50,000 to go towards the creation of two new houses and a hydropherapy pool for the rehabilition of children with acquired brain injury.
As for the Royal Atkinson I personally hope to raise £5000 which would go towards purchasing a cervical spinal retractor system; a piece of specialist surgical equipment used in spinal /brain surgery operations.
As a few of you already know I have a certain affiliation with The Royal Atkinson Hospital for it was in late November 2004 that my son underwent major brain surgery to remove a massive cavernoma in order to save his life.James went on to make a full recovery but there were children on his ward that required additional rehabilitation and it would be on such occasions that the Childrens Trust may come into play with the specialist care that they are renowned for.
There is as you can see obvious synergy between the charities and as I have just hit my initial target with regard to the Childrens Trust,it is now my intention to raise increased funds for the Atkinson Morley Wing.
