Story
Starting on 2nd January 2011 (maybe earlier depending on the weather!) I will be part of a 6 man crew attempting to break the current world Atlantic Ocean rowing record of 33 days, 7 hours and 30 minutes, to claim the much coveted Blue Ribbon.
We will be rowing from Morocco to Barbados - a journey of over 5000 KM, in a tiny 11m long rowing boat! To break the record we will be rowing a gruelling regime of 2 hours on - 2 hours off the oars, 24 hours a day until we reach Barbados. During our 2 hours off the oars we will need to cook, eat, navigate, clean, identify ships and communicate our position to avoid being run over, tend to our sore bottoms and aching limbs and of course try to get some much needed sleep!
I have chosen to raise money for 2 charities - Make A Wish and British Heart Foundation. Make A Wish grant magical wishes to children and young people fighting life-threatening illnesses and so they may not have the opportunities I've had in life to experience the wonders of the world (or do daft things like row across the Atlantic - sorry Mum xx). The British Heart Foundation, the nation's heart charity, undertake pioneering research that could benefit us all.
