Plan International UK is a global children’s charity working to create lasting equality for girls and protect the rights of all children. Plan International works with communities in over 50 countries across the world to tackle the root causes of exclusion and injustice for all children.

Story

I am a member of a 6 man team who will race the ocean rowing boat Sara G across the Atlantic Ocean from Morocco to Barbados in January 2012 -  we will cover a distance of 2,500 nautical miles non-stop and unsupported.

Our aim is to set a new Guinness World Record for the crossing - the current record stands at 33 days.

More people have climbed Mount Everest than have crossed an ocean through their own physical exertion - so this challenge will be a big one to say the least. Those of you who know me are aware that this has been an ambition of mine for several years now and I am very excited about it.

I am rowing to raise funds and awareness for the children's charity PLAN INTERNATIONAL and more specifically for their Because I Am a Girl campaign.

'Because I am a Girl' is Plan’s current flagship campaign to help break a cycle of poverty and gender discrimination. The aim is to give girls in some of the world’s poorest countries the chance of an education and a new future.

Many many thanks.
