Story

Thank you for visiting my fundraising page! I am taking on a triathlon with a difference, covering over 1,000 miles in the coming months on foot, bicycle and canoe to raise money for the oncology unit at Poole Hospital.

I was diagnosed with bowel cancer three years ago and just week’s later doctors discovered a carcinoma that required major surgery to my face. I then needed further surgery over the next two years as the disease spread to my lymph and lungs.

I have now gone a year since my last operation and I am determined to make the most of my return to health and pay back those who have treated my condition!

STAGES OF THE TOGS' TRIATHLON:

Stage 1: April - Two Moors Way. Walk taking in  Dartmoor & Exmoor National Park from Lynmouth on the Bristol Channel to Wembury on the English Channel. 110 miles over approximately 5 days.  Completed - click here for news clipping

Stage 2: June - Cycle ride from John O'Groats to Land's End. 900 miles over approximately 2 weeks.  Completed - click here for news clipping

Stage 3: September - 9-hour canoe challenge.  Wareham - Brownsea island - Wareham  Completed! (Press article to follow shortly).  This stage was much more arduous than first thought and the hardest stage.  Thanks to Clive and Hillary West of the Isle of Portland canoe club I placed myself in their hands and modified the route.  How right they were, we took advantage of good conditions and tides on Monday Sept 21st.  A beautiful day, we entered the water at Wareham and canoed down the Frome, into Poole Harbour, round the south harbour and brownsea island to the ferry crossing, back round the north of the harbour and back up the Frome to Wareham.  The tides were against us for a time and we finished in pitch darkness, freezing cold at 8.30pm!

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Poole Hospital gets your money faster and, if you’re a taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation AT NO EXTRA COST TO YOU!!

So please sponsor me! Best wishes Austin
