Swim 2.4 miles, Bike 112 miles, Run 26.2 miles.
All in one day, one after another. This is Ironman and I'll be tackling this beast on July 13 in sunny Austria. Temperatures last year were in the low to mid 30's. I’m doing this because it’s a challenge I’ve wanted to do for 5 years and I’m now in a position where I’ve got the time to train and, most importantly, I can get the time off work to go and do it. I’m hoping to put in a 10-12 hour time for this race. The swim should take me about 1 hour, the bike about 6 and if after that I can put a 4 hour marathon behind me I’ll be happy. I’m paying a coach to train me so if I can remain injury free I’ll be lining up at my best.
A little about the RAFBF, the benevolent fund was set up by Lord Trenchard in 1919, a year after the Air Force was formed. It was designed to help serving members of the RAF and their families and still does the same job today. The fund helps people by many means, this can be as simple as giving a family a weekend away at one of the funds respite homes or paying next of kin a cash sum within 24 hours of a family members death to help with funeral payments etc.
Why the RAFBF? Three of my friends were involved in a crash, the fund helped their families and I think we should all give something back. £2000 is a lot of money to raise, but this is a massive challenge and the RAFBF is a great charity that deserve as much support as we can give them. Please dig deep and give something to this great organisation.
