As many of you will know Ava is the Development Manager at the Encephalitis Society (the only resource of its kind in the world!) and for the last 10 years her work with those affected by Encephalitis has become her life. As a result she works, sleeps, eats and breathes her work with people whose lives have been left shattered by the devastation caused by Encephalitis. Subsequently so does her poor, long suffering but incredibly tolerant husband, Tony!
Ava decided to put a Trek across the Transylvanian Alps together (nearly every day we will trek to over 2,400m, on steep mountain paths, needing all our mental and physical strength) to raise much needed money for the Encephalitis Society. Around about the same time the aforementioned long suffering husband found out he was signed up for the trek! So please sponsor Ava because she is dedicated to her work and please sponsor Tony because he is married to her!
If you fancy joining our trek please visit http://www.charitychallenge.com/expedition.html?id=1159
Encephalitis is inflammation of the brain caused by infection (usually viral) or by autoimmune disease. Mortality rates are high and many of those who survive are left with an acquired brain injury, the degree and severity of which will vary. The Encephalitis Society was founded in 1994, is a registered charity and the only resource of its kind in the world. The Society provides direct support and information to people affected by Encephalitis in the and , answering over 2000 calls for support and information from people affected and their families. Their website receives 2000 hits from all over the world each week and the staff team do what they can to respond to the many requests and emails received. An Independent Audit in 2005 concluded that for those who contacted the Society it was a “light in a very dark place”. www.encephalitis.info
