Story
WE DID IT!
Unfortunately Paul had to withdraw at the very last minute on the advice on his physician, but Gregg and Aimee lined up amongst the thousands in Greenwich Park.
Aimee has spent the previous day applying numerous layers of fake tan and Gregg donned the promised day-glo ginger wig, so everything was nice and orange as we set off in glorious sunshine.
After battling through thousands of slower runners (just how did they manage to start in front of us?), a couple of heavy downpours and our supply of energy gels, we made it to the finish line just a few minutes apart.
Gregg: 4 hours 00 minutes 45 seconds (finished still wearing his wig).
Aimee: 4 hours 06 minutes 48 seconds (finished still wearing most of her fake tan).
Both of us are really pleased with our performances, and equally delighted with the amount of money we raised, thanks to the generosuity of our sponsors.
It was a truly memorable experience but one that we hope is surpassed by the children our sponsorship money is benefiting.
This site will remain open for a while, so anyone that wants to sponsor us that has not yet done so, please do.
Thanks again!
Thank you for visiting our fundraising page.
On Sunday April 13th it's the 2008 London Marathon. Rather than watching it from the snug safety of our beds, we will be taking part and trying to complete the 26 and-a-bit miles along with thousands of other hopefuls.
Why?
To try and make children's dreams come true by raising some money for a very small, but extremely worthy local charity - Wishes 4 Kids. The explanation to the left explains all about Wishes 4 Kids and if you want to know more click on the link below.
Based in Leicester, Wishes 4 Kids is run by a handful of dedicated people who rely completely on fundraising to grant the wishes of children. A wish costs around 700 pounds to fulfil, so if we could raise enough money to grant 3 wishes (1 each) that would be fantastic.
After completing the half-marathon Great North Run last year, Gregg and Paul thought this was the only chance they stood of ever being fit enough to tackle a full marathon. Joining them and adding some much needed glamour to the team is Aimee. Aimee has not yet run even half the distance but she will probably be the first of us across the line.
NEW FEATURE!
You can now keep up to date with Gregg's progress with his 'exciting' training blog:
http://www.realbuzz.com/en-gb/blogs/index?pageID=1997&blog=9039
Wishes 4 Kids want to ensure that their small group of runners are distinctive, so they have 'kindly' supplied us with some very orange short shorts and vests to run in. So when the BBC show the inevitable footage of the cramp-ridden stragglers wheezing along at the back you'll be able to recognise us nice and easily.
Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor us: Wishes 4 Kids will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.
Gregg's employer, Microsoft, have generously pledged to double any funds that he raises from fellow Microsofties. For every penny or pound kindly sponsored, Uncle Bill Gates and his software empire will give him another one. Nice one, Bill!
If that isn't enough of an incentive to donate, then here's another. If we raise the 2100 pounds we are hoping for, Gregg will add a tasteless orange wig to his already very orange outfit. Maybe Paul and Aimee will add more orange-ness too, perhaps a nice orange fake tan or juggling oranges as they run?
That's it! Thanks for reading our message.
We hope you can help us support Wishes 4 Kids by sponsoring us now,
Gregg, Paul & Aimee
