A new wildlife haven at the gateway to Bristol · 28 March 2014

Avon Wildlife Trust is the largest local charity working to protect wildlife and inspire people in the West of England. We work across the old county of Avon and cover the four local authority areas of Bristol, Bath and North East Somerset, South Gloucestershire, and North Somerset.

Story

As part of our celebrations for Bristol’s year as European Green Capital 2015, Avon Wildlife Trust is planning to develop a new nature reserve in the Avon Gorge, at the gateway to the city.

But we can’t do it without your help.

Thousands of visitors to Bristol pass though the Avon Gorge every day. The Gorge is also an essential wildlife corridor for foraging species including barn owl and several species of bat, and is home to badgers, hedgehogs, slow worms and some truly unique plant species.

Your support will help us transform a 12-acre neglected former sports facility into a wildlife haven of wildflower meadows, native woodland, hedgerows and ponds. Once open we plan to use the new Bennett’s Patch and White's Paddock Reserve to encourage people from across the city, and beyond, to create new homes for wildlife in their own gardens.

A gift of £15, £30, £50 or whatever you can afford will make a huge difference to this landmark project.

Thank you for your support.
