Update (September - Post Ascent):  Mission Accomplished

Well we made it. Would we do it again? “NO!”  I think after Day 3 we were ready to catch a train home, but guess what, there wasn’t one!*!  If it hadn’t have been for the tremendous support and encouragement we had received from friends and family, and the great group with whom we climbed, we might have given up.  Thanks again for the amazing support you have shown us – we really are a very fortunate family.

The amount we have raised for AYME has greatly exceeded our expectations.  This money will help to enrich the lives of many young people who suffer with ME/CFS.

Thank you everyone.

Update (August): Thanks to each and everyone one of you who has sponsored us so far. We feel truly overwhelmed by your generosity. Now the pressure is on for us to reach the summit of Kilimanjaro! However, since the original sponsorship target has been reached we are now raising the bench mark and true to Black Family form we are trying to aim even higher. Our New Goal is £3000.

Our story: Rosie, our youngest daughter (17 years old), has been battling M.E. now for almost 3 years. During this time her quality of life has decreased and she struggles to find the energy for even the simplest daily tasks. Despite everything though she maintains a positive attitude and is determined to conquer this debilitating, isolating and painful illness.

AYME (a registered charity) is like a family of positive young people with M.E. and is dedicated to helping sufferers between 5 and 25 rebuild their lives. Membership of AYME is free and therefore it depends on donations to maintain this lifeline which is so essential for many young people with M.E.

Frances and I will attempt to climb Mount Kilimanjaro (the highest peak in Africa at 5900m) this September. We really hope that you will be generous enough to sponsor us for the benefit of AYME, a charity very close to our hearts.
