Virgin London Marathon 2010 · 25 April 2010 ·

Able Child works toward a world in which no child with a disability is left behind. We support a network of organisations in Africa to protect, educate and amplify the voices of children and young people with disabilities, so they are able to thrive.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

A year has flown by and its time for another assault on the London Marathon. This year I will be going into unknown territory and running solo without the help of my big brother Tom! He has just become a Dad so I'm sure he will be watching with his newly born baby daughter Florence!

Although I will be running without Tom I will be running again for AbleChidAfrica. This Charity grows closer to my heart the more I find out about the work it does and the children who's lives are changed with its support. I am humbled everyday with the thoughts of the challenges that disabled and under privileged children face in many countries in Africa. Yet at the same time I am motivated to do everything I can to support AbleChildAfrica who in turn give children in Africa something I have taken for granted, education and the opportunity to learn.

Nearly 50 million children in Africa are disabled, of these children only 2% recieve any form of Primary Education, their only chance to make a better life for themselves. Disabled children in Africa face massive discrimination as well as the challenge of living with a disability in extreme poverty. According to African tradition disability is a curse, a punishment for bad deeds. Disabled children are often orphaned or forced live like animals, in conditions we can barely imagine.

AbleChildAfrica has a vision, a world where all disabled children are able and have the opportunity to achieve their best. They do this by supporting schools and projects such as the Little Rock Education Centre in Kibera, the largest slum in Nairobi. Visit their web site to se ethe inspirational work they are doing www.littlerockkenya.org/.

Please donate as much as you are able, it is a truly wonderful organisation helping some extremely underprivileged but brave and amazing children who have an incredible appitite to learn, and would give everything to have the opportunity to make a better life for themselves.

Thank you for taking the time to read this and for your generous support.

If you were wondering I haven't decided what fancy dress I will wear this year but Lady Ga Ga is favourite at the moment!
