I am raising money for the Hospital who saved the life of my little nephew Jack who was born with a rare condition called Tracheo-Oesophageal Fistula (TOF) more info - http://www.tofs.org.uk/. This basically means he was born with his food and wind pipe not fully formed and unable to swallow. When he was born he was rushed to Addenbrookes Hospital in Cambridge for an emergency operation. From then Jack spent the first 3 months of his life living in Hospital being care for by the nurses and doctors in the NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit) at the Rosie Hospital. For these first weeks he had to be fed by a tube directly into his stomach. He now lives at home in Peterborough with his Mum (my Sister-in-law Kathryn) and his Dad (Mark) and his older Sister Grace. Jacks condition means he has other complications and he has to make regular trips to the Hospital with his Mum and Dad to make him better and to make his food pipe stronger and wider.
I have decided to push a table on wheels from my house on Newland Avenue to The Humber Bridge on 24th July which is approximately 7 miles. When I arrive I plan to have my breakfast on the table (not sure what time breakfast will be!!). The inspiration for this idea is from the video for the song "The Table" by my favourite band The Beautiful South and I think it symbolises the many difficult journeys Jacks Mum and Dad have to make, often spending the night with Jack in Hospital in difficult circumstances like when he is nill by mouth.
Jack is 10 Months now. He is doing really well but still needs to go the hospital every 8 weeks or so. His tubes still need time to heal, but he is starting to eat solids and can drink a full bottle of milk just like other babies his age! I am specifically raising money for the NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit) at Addenbrookes Hospital.
