Ernie Moss has been diagnosed with Pick’s Disease. A type of frontotemporal dementia. His family, along with many friends, fans and Chesterfield Football Club, have been doing various things to support him and to help raise both cash and awareness for Dementia U.K. One of the things that was done was a charity match during the 2016 preseason between Chesterfield Legends and a team of celebrities representing the Once Upon A Smile charity. It was a fantastic turnout for the Chesterfield hero, and helped raise a big amount of money.
And it was at this very match that I had my idea. I looked at all the players representing Chesterfield, turned to my brother and said “I reckon I could draw all those players really badly!”
Now, I understand that may be a very strange thing to say. Indeed, I imagine anybody could draw anyone ‘really badly’, but what I meant was, in my own style.
By the time this season would start, the number of players played for Chesterfield would have reached 1004 since 1921. Then there were the players BEFORE that. After all, this is our 150th year. Obviously, I wasn’t going to attempt them all. That would be stupid.
Hello. I’m Stupid.
Yep. You guessed it. I’m going to TRY and draw them all. Now, THIS MAY BE IMPOSSIBLE as some of the photographs of certain players may not exist. This must be COMPLETLEY UNDERSTOOD as I don’t want anyone to think I haven’t been entirely clear. If I don’t have a picture, I can’t draw it. Also, sometimes I may come across a player who I can’t get hold of in a Chesterfield shirt. In these cases, I draw the picture nearest to the date they played for Chesterfield and put them in that seasons shirt. It’s the best I can do.
Much love,
