Ian's Balmoral 15 Mile Trail Race

Balmoral 15 Trail Race · 27 April 2014
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. I'm running the Balmoral 15 mile Trail Race to help raise funds for MacMillan as part of the fundraising team setup by Steve Bonthrone & Allison McArthur (AKA The Running Princess). Both Steve and Allison are experienced runners and have set themselves their biggest ever running challenges. This too, will be my biggest race yet and my aim is to help make some additional funds for their collective effort.
Here is some info on Steve's & Allison's challenges:
In 2014 I am going to run the Paris Marathon on 6th April, the Loch Ness Marathon on 28th September and cover the distance between the two events (850 miles) to raise money for MacMillan in memory of my dad, Harry Bonthrone, who died on the 2nd July after a brave battle against Oesophageal Cancer.
My dad was my hero. He inspired me to start running and even though I wasn't very good when I started, he taught me it was all about taking part and constantly improving myself and not about being the best. This is something I've lived by in life and taught to others.
My dad was always fit, never ill and while it was a huge shock when he was diagnosed, he quickly accepted what was about to happen and set about enjoying the time he had left, remaining strong throughout. Dad thought he had acid reflux when he went to the doctor and by the time he was diagnosed after doing various tests, his condition was untreatable.
My challenge not only includes Paris and Loch Ness, I also plan to run the 5k, 10k, Half Marathon and Marathon at the Edinburgh Marathon Festival in May, complete a Triathlon, run the Scottish Half Marathon in September and complete a few other events to help me complete the 850 miles in 25 weeks.
My challenge is also to inspire men and women out there to live a healthier life and to get checked regularly to reduce the risk of developing cancer.
Allison's challenge involves a whole year of marathons! Find out more here: http://www.justgiving.com/Allison-McArthur1
