10th December 2008 Thank you for visiting our fundraising page.
Both Chris & I successfully completed our Marathon attempt on December 7th 2008. Chris came in 47th overall and I finished in 62nd place. Not bad for two novices with injury interruptions throughout our training! After the race we promised ourselves a celebration. We wanted to party hard, but found it hard to party and were fast asleep by 8pm: in mitigation we had been up since 3am & run 26.2 miles in the sweltering heat. Now we know why not everyone that sets out to run a marathon hits the finish line! When we set out to raise funds for the Barbados Children’s Trust and SPARKS we set ourselves a target of raising a minimum of £10,000 to be shared equally between the two charities. We are pleased to say that we have already exceeded that target, but we are not stopping there. The fundraising will continue until this page closes in July 2009, by which time we hope to have raised enough money for the BCT to fully fund a community playground. During our 8 days on the island we were kept very busy in publicising our efforts and the Barbados Children’s Trust in particular, and in preparing for the race itself. We would like to say special thanks to all of you for making the event such a success. To those of you, who have already made a donation, THANK YOU. To those who have pledged your support, please, please cough up! and to those have not yet made up your mind , please DO! – it WILL make a REAL difference to the children. We plan to post updates to the site regularly as we have news to report, so please do bookmark the page and tell your friends about it. Thank you Anil & Chris
