On April 22nd 2009, 10 cyclists will be flying from Liverpool with Easy Jet to Barcelona to embark on a soccer charity bike ride. We will be raising awareness and money for the Marina Dalglish Cancer Appeal (Wife of the Liverpool Legend Kenny). Marina works closely with several cancer wards and the aim of our ride is to raise £10,000 for chairity between the participants.
The aim of the event is to cycle the 1000 miles from the Nou Camp to Anfield Liverpool in 10 days. We will be stopping at two French clubs and Portsmouth, Aston Villa and Manchester United, Manchester City on the route back to Anfield to raise further awareness and money for the campaign.
We will be setting off from the Nou Camp on Thursday 23rd of April 2009 and arrive at Anfield for Liverpool’s home match with Newcastle United in the Premier League. We will watch Barcelona play in La Liga on the 22nd of April and are currently in communication with the Spanish Club about gaining publicity before and after their home fixture.
In the months leading up to the challenge we will be looking to gain as much publicity as possible for the event, through our team outfits and bikes, website, national & local newspapers, radio and television. Several pre event fundraising activities will take place e.g. 12hr bike - athon in a gym.
Diadora have fortunately provided us with cycling wear. But we are currently looking for sponsorship support to help with hotel and equipment costs. We promise to work closely with all sponsors to ensure they receive maximum coverage in the media before, during and after the event.
We are currently registering with the Dalglish family charity for the event to obtain an exclusive sponsorship number.
