UPDATE 24/05/2012
Our wonder machine has finally emerged from Riverside Motors (thanks to John). We hope she is now able to transport the six of to Barcelona in relative discomfort.
No banger rally would be worth competing in without a smart paint job. Unfortunately, none of us have the skills to do a smart paint job, so Stu and Gav did a rubbish one instead - see pic. I understand various tins of leftover emulsion were used, so let's hope it doesn't rain!
UPDATE 23/04/2012
We have now taxed and insured our trusty Renault, and it is now in the garage being rally-prepared (fixed). It has been in the garage since 10th April, so getting a bit concerned now! Anyone know how much rear engine mountings cost? Renault UK don't stock them for 1987 vintage vehicles, so they're coming direct from France. £££'s...oh dear!

We have now purchased our vehicle - see pictures below! It was bought for £300 from a lovely fella in Tillingham, Essex (hello Alec!). He's delighted that the Mark 1 Renault Espace he's had for 16 years will spend it's twilight years in Barcelona...assuming we get there of course.
FIRST ENTRY 31/01/2012
At first glance, you may think this is a bit of a jolly for the boys. Nothing could be further from the truth! Read on...
Six of us have entered an event called Barcelona Bangers, which is a car rally from Calais to Barcelona from 1st-3rd June. Simple eh? Well not quite.
The clue is in the title - the vehicle has to be a banger. A banger is classed is a vehicle costing around £250.
Our banger (as yet un-purchased) has to transport the six of us 1200 miles to Barcelona, via Lyon and Nice. Bear in mind that none of us has any mechanical experience whatsoever, and you're looking at a potentially "interesting" trip!
We will, of course, be giving our chosen vehicle a paint job to attract the most attention as we meander through the French countryside and stop off at unsuspecting French villages.
The organisers have advised us that there are various challenges along the way. We don't know the details yet, but we believe embarassment in front of the locals is high on the agenda.
