We help people with learning disabilities to lead fulfilled lives

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

In April 2008 one of my best friends tragically lost her life in a white water accident whilst travelling in New Zealand.  Em had recently graduated with a first class degree from Swansea Uni where we had both studied law and was taking a well deserved few months out to go explore the world before starting her career.

Coming to terms with her passing has been a huge struggle for both family and friends, only made a little easier by the founding of The Emily Jordan Foundation.  We all knew that Em was going to do something immense with her life, she had already packed so much in, and so the charity and it's success to date is a testament to her and her achievements.

The charity aims to:  "help individuals with moderate learning or physical disabilities to lead fulfilled lives," and I can promise you, it is already making a real difference.  We are now the proud owners of a unit based in Kidderminster which houses 'Spokes,' a successful social enterprise which trains young people with learning difficulties to enter the workplace.  As well as this the unit is well on the way to running computer skills sessions based in the upstairs office, and has plenty of room to expand to incorporate training in basic woodwork skills.

It's great to see these young people doing something fulfilling with their lives, getting enjoyment out of it and even receiving their first wage packet!

So, what am I doing to justify your sponsorship!?  Well, beginning April 16th 2011 I will be setting off on a 1,000 mile cycle ride from Em's hometown near Kidderminster to Barcelona.  I will be undertaking this journey on my own, carrying the necessary equipment and provisions with me.  After only managing to secure a week off work for the Lands End to John O'Groats ride in 2009 I have been desperately wanting to complete this planned ride for some time, and now the chance has arisen.

I hope you will sponsor me for my efforts, and I can assure you that every penny is going towards a hugely worthwhile and deeply personal cause.

Thank you so much.

Chris
