On Saturday the 11th of July a hardy bunch of 12 Barclays employees and selected ringers will be attempting the Artemis Great Kindrochit Quadrathlon (www.artemisgreatkindrochit.com). The event, billed as “Arguably Scotlands Toughest 1 Day Event”, consists of  –

     - Swim - 1.5k (0.8 miles) across the temperate waters (not) of Loch Tay
     - Run/Walk - seven Munro's encompassing the Lawers and Ptarmigan ridges (approx 24k or 15 miles – very hilly……..)
     - Kayak - 11k (7 miles) down Loch Tay
     - Cycle - around Loch Tay 54k (34 miles)
     - Slice a melon - in two with a sword to stop the clock
Last years winners came in around the 9 hour mark. We expect to come nowhere near this and despite a 6am start time will undoubtedly be requiring lights for the bicycle leg.

Our goals are mixed –
Angela – to get round, Julian  - to get out of the water alive, Ritchie – to get up in time, Gary – to get out of east London [etc]

We are however all are keen to raise funds for Mercy Corp (www.mercycorps.org.uk). The Artemis Charitable Foundation has nominated Mercy Corps for the sixth year running to benefit from this event. Mercy Corps is an international development charity that works in 37 countries worldwide helping vulnerable people amid disasters, conflicts, chronic poverty and instability. Having met the Mercy Corp team on previous events I can vouch for the amazing dedication of their people and the value of their work.

Between us we are aiming to raise £4,000 for Mercy Corp which we’ll look to double with £ for £ matching from Barclays. Of course we’d love to blow the socks off this given the pain we will be suffering on the Saturday evening.

Pictures of our physical dishevelment will be tagged here post the event – dig deep and wish us well !

Thanks,

Angela, Ritchie, Drew, Rory, Nick, Nicks flatmate, Catherine, Catherines Beloved, Teresa, Julian, Gary, Jonathan, Mr X!

Browny - I thought you said swimming, running, cycling and kayaking is for wimps? Oh well at least you get a chance to use your chopper on the melon. Donation by Paul Garside on 02/06/09
