When life gets tough or it feels like there's nowhere to turn, Barnardo's is here. We make sure children and young people feel safer, happier and more hopeful by directly supporting them with specialist services across the UK. We have been changing childhoods and changing lives for over 150 years.

Story

Thanks for visiting my fundraising page.

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Barnardo's gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.

So please sponsor me!!

I will be cycling from my home in Edinburgh to the previously known Ravensworth childrens home in Gateshead Tyne and Wear which is where I spent some of my younger years. It is approximately 130 miles and should take in the region of 10-12 hours. (dependent on fitness levels )

I plan to set off in the early hours of Saturday 27th June 2009.

I have chosen to support this charity for the simple reason that as some of you may know Barnardos helped me considerably in my younger years and ensured that in my time of need I was well cared for.

So please look down the back of your sofas or at the back of drawers and sponsor me with any spare change you find. No matter how little every penny helps!!

Thank you all!

Paul Armstrong

                       Training progress

12/3/2009..Cycled about 5 mile tonight after work and collapsed into a heap on the floor when got home! Oh dear!!

14/3/2009.. Was well hyped up for a good long pedal until about 7 mile into it the front tyre gets a slow puncture courtesy of drawing pin (what's the chances?!!)

16/3/2009.. Going to join the gym tomorrow, May have trouble sleeping tonight !  .....  Ha Ha bring it on!!

I would like to say a huge THANK YOU !! to all of you who have taken the time to contribute and support this worthwile cause. It means a great deal to me and with your kind words i can't go wrong

17/3/2009.. Well thats it i'm now officially a member of the gym. After work tonight i came home had some dinner bathed the wee guy and said hello to the wife then i fixed the punture from the previous night and set out for my first expedition to the gym. I cycled to the gym and then spent just under an hour on some bizare contraption which made me sweat profusely and made the muscles in my legs burn (can only be a good thing) all in all it went rather well!

31/3/2009.. I should have done the whole gym thing years ago..I'm actually on edge on the nights i don't get to go (what's that all about?) I can now see and feel the difference in fitness levels after just under a month of training i think i need to dedicate some more time on the fundraising side as seems to have slowed down over the last couple of weeks. watch this space!!
