Cystic fibrosis (CF) is a life-shortening genetic condition that slowly destroys the lungs and digestive system. The Cystic Fibrosis Trust is the only UK-wide charity fighting for a life unlimited, when everyone living with CF can look forward to a long, healthy life. www.cysticfibrosis.org.uk

Story

On Saturday 23rd April 2005 The Barnes Challenge Team carried out their challenge and all lived to tell their exciting tale! The team comprising Lorraine Barnes (me!), my brother, Lee Birkett, Steven Lee (Chiz), Lisa Bichard, Deborah Reeks, Elaine Wright and Hannah Mulvey.

We jumped tandem from 13,500 feet at speeds of up to 140 mph. What an absolute thrill! Not sure if I want to do it again within the very near future, but some members of the team said they would have gone straight back up again! Not bad for 7 people who had never jumped out of an aeroplane before and an outstanding performance from Lee who had never even been up in an aeroplane in his lifetime - total respect!

Sponsorship is still being collected in and the total will continue to go up over the next few weeks. Who knows, we may even break £6000 by the time we've finished!

For those who are looking after sponsoring us - thankyou very much. It was all worthwhile and a day to remember for us all forever!

Cystic Fibrosis affects the body's vital organs by covering the lungs in a thick sticky mucous. CF causes problems digesting food, and may lead to diabetes, or kidney failure. People with CF have to undergo a strict daily regime of physiotherapy, and take medication to help them digest their food. The average life expectancy of a person with CF is 31 years old. The Cystic Fibrosis Trust is the only charity in the UK working to support sufferers of CF and their families. The CF Trust funds medical research project and patient care programmes across the UK. The trust now urgently needs £15 million for gene therapy programme, which may put an end to the LIFE THREATENING aspect of the illness. Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor us: The Cystic Fibrosis Trust will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you. Many thanks for your support. Kind Regards from Lorraine, Lisa, Deborah, Elaine, Hannah, Lee and Steven (Chiz)
