Story
** Monday 12th May 2008
The walk proved to be a very positive thing to do in Chris's memory and both families completed the walk in just under 2 hours with a lot of merriment along the way.
From both families - thank you very much for those who supported us and for those who sent messages to Sue and her family who have been overwhelmed with the generosity. This has helped to keep them focused this week on something positive during a time when things could have seemed so very negative.
You Tube footage of some pictures take on the walk logged on this page.
It has been a couple of year's since the Barnes Family did a fundraising event all together for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust so this year we have decided to do a Great Strides Walk with the Pearson Family in memory of my good friend Sue's son, Chris.
Chris left us on 9th May 2007 aged 24 year's old. We will be doing the walk in Nottingham on 10th May to co-incide with CF Fundraising Week.
My son's, Daniel 12 year's old and Joseph 4 year's old both have the life-threatening genetically inherited disease Cystic Fibrosis.
This will be the first time that Joseph has taken part in a fundraising venture and I have no doubt at the age of 4 year's old (16 days away from his 5th birthday on the walk!) he will finish before me!
From the Pearson Family:
As the result of Cystic Fibrosis, Chris was told he needed a double lung transplant. His quality of life while waiting for new lungs was non-existent and he spent many hours housebound and struggling to breath. Eventually, due to the gift from his donor – a complete stranger who never even knew him – he received a transplant and was able to lead a normal life for eight and a half months. I can’t begin to describe how priceless to see that was for me, his dad and his brother.
Sadly he died on the 9th of May 2007 due to complications. He was 24 years old.
As we approach the first anniversary of our saying goodbye to Chris, my friend Lorraine and I agreed how fitting it would be to take part in The Great Strides walk in his memory. Chris was an extremely positive person who never ever complained even when things were at their worst, and the walk will be something ‘positive’ at a time that could so easily be very negative.
Please help us to achieve our target and we thank you very much for your support.
