Accent Marketing - supporting LEPRA

CHALLENGE UPDATE
London Marathon completed successfully on 25th April 2010 in 4hours 32minutes.  And Barry even ran with and then overtook Richard Branson.

*********************

As many of you will be aware Barry has had links with LEPRA for many years, and indeed has a few friends that work there, so when the time came to choose a charity to run for it was an easy one to make.  Although a marathon for anyone is a huge undertaking it is especially so for Barry...

Why such a challenge? A little over 3 years ago Barry underwent major open surgery on his left kidney and to this day still hasn’t been signed off by the consultant (fingers crossed though).  However, undeterred by being told recovery would take a minimum of 6 months he was up and walking within 2 weeks, and after seeking the consultants permission, and with only 9 weeks of training was able to clock up his first half marathon in over 15 years just 6 months after the operation.  The end result was a respectable time of less than 2 hours.  Running the London Marathon has been a life-long ambition for Barry and although there were definitely better times in his life to run it, none will be more special than achieving it after these challenges.

Why did we choose LEPRA? They're passionate about making a difference, and impress with this outlook so much so Her Majesty the Queen became the Patron.  But more importantly through providing health education in communities, training local staff, setting up specialist referral services and refurbishing hospitals and surgeries, LEPRA is working alongside vulnerable communities to help put people's health in their own hands.  Just £25 can supply the treatment necessary to cure someone of TB or Leprosy - £60 can equip a paramedic  in a community, but please donate anything you can, however much that may be and become the change you wish to see in the world.
