Marie Curie provides care and support for people living with any terminal illness across the UK. Our nurses work night and day in people’s homes and our hospices offer specialist care. We also support people emotionally, provide practical information, and match them with trained volunteers.

Story

Thank you for visiting my fundraising page. Please dig deep and sponsor me online.

I'm about to throw myself off a 100ft high building, with nothing but a bit of rope to stop me going splat!

AKA: I'm going to abseil down The Baltic Centre of Contemporary Art in Gateshead on Sunday 24th June.

Why?

To raise money for Marie Curie Cancer Care, that's why.

Three years ago, my mum was lucky enough to spend her final weeks in our local Marie Curie Hospice, the care she (and we) received there, was nothing short of phenomenal (from the doctors right down to the cleaners).

Providing that kind of care for free though, costs money  - lots of it!, And all Marie Curie's funds come from donations, and people willing to do daft things to raise money.

Marie Curie, lists it's services and how much they cost as follows:

£20 - Pays for a Marie Curie Cancer Care nurse for one hour in the home.
£100 - Would pay for attendance at a Day Therapy unit for one day in a Marie Curie hospice.
£160 - Pays for a full shift for a Marie Curie Nurse in the patient's home. Marie Curie Cancer Care nursing
£400 - Pays for Marie Curie Cancer Care's contribution to the cost of caring for an in-patient in a hospice for a day.
£800 - Supports a team of scientists for a day at the Marie Curie Research Institute. £1,000 - Would buy a portable oxygen system that will relieve distressing symptoms wherever the patient happens to be, so not confining them to bed. £3,000 - Would pay the drug bill for one week at a Marie Curie hospice.
£27,000 - Would pay for a Marie Curie Clinical Nurse Specialist for one year.
£59,000 - Will cover the average cost of running one of Marie Curie Cancer Care's ten hospices for one week.
£300,000 - Supports a complete group of scientists, inclusive of salaries, for one year at the Marie Curie Research Institute.
£590,000 - Will cover the cost of running Marie Curie Cancer Care's ten hospices for one week.

Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Marie Curie Cancer Care will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.

So please sponsor me now!

Many thanks for your support.
